"To celebrate the African novel and its adaptability
and resilience, Kwani Trust announces a one-off new literary prize for African
writing. The Kwani? Manuscript Project calls for the submission of unpublished
fiction manuscripts from African writers across the continent and in the
Diaspora."
This sounds like a great opportunity for every writer of
African descent. I love what Binyavanga Wainaina is doing to/for/with African
literature.
ENJOY
Binyavanga Wainaina is no longer involved with Kwani?. If you must praise anyone, it is Billy Kahora who has worked hard without the kind of publicity and hype that BW got. In any event, BW was not the only person behind the establishment of Kwani. He may have got all the publicity, but it was a group effort.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your correction. We grow up associating Kwani with Binyavanga. We were told he established it with his Caine prize money. Anyway, thanks for drawing my attention to the many other efforts that were part of the project. It really takes a village to bring up a child.
